Hail mary why is it said

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. The Hail Mary is the oldest, most repeated, most imitated, and most powerful Christian prayer.

It is the most imitated because its structure is used constantly in Christian prayers, whether long or short, public or private.

It moves from announcing and praising the work of God to asking for something because of his work just praised. And so it is that heaven has continually reminded us and even warned us that we should use this prayer often by praying the rosary each day—as Our Lady told us at Lourdes and Fatima.

After death a beautiful white lily grew from his mouth having written on its petals: "Hail Mary. Cesarius recounts a similar incident. A humble and holy monk lived in the monastery.

His poor mind and memory were so weak that he could only repeat one prayer which was the "Hail Mary. These beautiful legends show us how much devotion to Our Lady was valued, and the power attributed to the Hail Mary devoutly prayed. Each time that we say the Hail Mary we are repeating the very same words with which St.

Now when we say the Hail Mary we offer anew all these graces and joys to Our Lady and she accepts them with Immense delight.

Once Our Lord asked St. Francis Assisi to give Him something. So with our dearest Mother, she accepts from us each time we say the Hail Mary the joys and delight she received from the words of St. Almighty God gave His Blessed Mother all the dignity, greatness and holiness necessary to make her His own most perfect Mother.

But He also gave her all the sweetness, love, tenderness and affection necessary to make her our most loving Mother. Mary is truly and really our Mother. As children when in trouble run to their mothers for help, so ought we to run at once with unbounded confidence to Mary. Bernard and many Saints said that it was never, never heard at any time or in any place that Mary refused to hear the prayers of her children on earth. Why do we not realize this most consoling truth?

Why refuse the love and consolation that God's Sweet Mother is offering us? As we are taught these values, let us aspire to also practice them in our daily lives, manifesting these values in how we deal with others. Being humble is one of the key fundamental values a Catholic should have. The act of receiving Christ is, in itself, an act of humility.

Even being the mother of Jesus Christ, she did not use this privilege to assert power and gain unfair advantages. Instead, she stayed humble as she kept on serving God. We can see that Mary lived a very simple life. Even with the kind of favor God bestowed upon her, she accepted it humbly and graciously. This is unlike our world today, which glamorizes material wealth.

Simplicity encourages us to depend more on God and to use His standards to measure our own lives. It makes us realize that there is more to life than chasing worldly aspirations. Also, living simply allows us to understand the situation of the needy.

God has a heart for those in need, and we should aim to have the same. At the core of everything that Mary did is charity. For one, being a mother is in itself a charitable pursuit, requiring her to be generous for the sake of her child.

Practicing charity is a kind of love, and when we display charity in our lives, we show that we love God above anything else.

For this reason, all other Catholic values ultimately point back to the value of charity. And through being charitable, we also manifest the other fruits of the spirit, such as mercy, peace, and joy.

The acts of sacrifice done for the sake of charity always serve to nourish our souls. This article is part of Christianity. Find more related articles in the collection of prayers below:.
