I was able to easily grind a small amount off of a plate recently. I have a plasma cutter, grinders, torch and diamond blades, I've just never really messed around with tungsten though. I have plenty of cylinders, and powder. Titanium intrigues me as well. Post by Teeeman » Sat Feb 03, pm We went back to lead for all the above difficulties. At once point my neighbor was explaining how to create a home-made wood-fired kiln from a tennis ball can and some bricks or something I told him we 2 problems Tungsten's melting point was well above 5, degrees I'm going to write down his neat Kiln recipe.

We went back to lead this year to have more control of optimizing. Lead can be poured into a dry 2X Proper clothing and safety glasses and heavy heat resistant gloves are not optional when pouring lead into wood.

Pro tips: you can not cut the tungsten rings, try to crack it with pressure. Read this post for more. Alternatively, you may opt to use any locking pliers or a vice grip wrench to crack open the ring. More so, a rotary saw with a diamond-coated blade can cut through tungsten carbide rings in seconds. It is possible to cut through tungsten carbide rings.

However, the traditional means of cutting rings may not apply to such rings. Tungsten carbide is only damaged or scratched by using extreme measures, like abrasion from corundum or diamonds. In the case of medical emergencies, medical professionals fracture tungsten carbide rings into small pieces using vice grip pliers or other ring cutting or vice devices.

Most hospitals have the necessary tools to remove such hard metal rings from your swollen finger. The vice grip pliers fracture the ring at separate points to allow the ring to fall off from the finger easily and in pieces. Often, many professionals prefer using vice grip pliers. Lock the mouth of the vice grip pliers onto the ring by squeezing the handles together.

Turn the handle knob in a clockwise manner to tighten the grip, making the teeth of the pliers grasp the ring securely. There are a few different ways to do it.

This video demonstrates this:. Most hospitals and emergency rooms use this method, and often have specific equipment on site that does the job. Using a pair of vice grip pliers, or similar tool, gently squeeze on the ring until it fractures and falls off your finger. Check out how to do this safely in the following video:. Ceramic wedding bands are also removed in the same way as tungsten, using vice to shatter the ring. Unless you already have a working knowledge of metals, then you might be asking yourself: What is tungsten carbide, and can it be cut off your finger?

Tungsten carbide rings are made of the hardest metal on earth. This is what gives it its scratch resistance, but this durability also means these rings resist cutting tools. Because these rings are so strong, many people worry about whether or not they can be cut off in case of emergencies like finger swelling. So, can tungsten be cut? While tungsten rings cannot be literally cut off, they can still be safely removed in case of an emergency.

If you've researched tungsten rings, you've probably seen a lot of videos and articles about them being indestructible. You've maybe even heard of men's wedding bands taking a diamond saw to cut off. Don't let these sources scare you off from tungsten rings.

Even though they can't be cut off, they don't require something like a diamond saw to remove.
